MCA Principal David Watts, AIA Retires

By Stephen Bates, AIA, NCARB, President

A fond farewell to Principal David Watts, AIA, an MCA veteran of almost 32 years and an architectural professional of 40 years, who begins 2023 as a new retiree!

Long certified in evidence-based healthcare design, David’s career focused primarily on bringing his wide experience in healthcare planning and design to our healthcare sector clients, with hundreds of projects completed for the region’s largest providers. A recent significant accomplishment of personal and corporate pride was his involvement on the team for the rapid-response creation of the 20-bed emergency hospital facility conversion of the Maryland Convention Center during the height of the COVID pandemic. Over the years he also participated in and co-chaired the American Institute of Architects Baltimore Health and Wellness Committee.

Our friend David looks forward to a well-earned change of pace and the opportunity to dive more meaningfully into his intertest in architectural photography. He leaves the leadership of MCA’s Healthcare Sector under strong guidance of sector leaders Kim Kavanaugh, AIA and Frank Rosato, AIA as he moves on to an exciting new chapter.

Congratulations and best of luck, David!
