NPS: Back out West!

By Stephen Bates, AIA, NCARB, President

MCA is busy this week and next with our National Parks, with teams supporting our colleagues at the National Park Service and FEA on comprehensive Project Scoping Assessments for parks in Alaska, Oregon and Washington, including Mount Rainier National Park, Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve, Sitka National Historical Park, Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, and the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Skagway.

These fascinating projects are primarily focused on Visitors Centers, Collection Storage and Preservation, Historic Structures Stabilization, and Housing, as well as Historic Landscapes and Trails. The entire project team is committed to helping to move this important program forward while maintaining rigorous safety protocols to avoid exposure to, or the introduction of, COVID-19 related infections, with as much of the work as possible being conducted virtually and all travel and field work being done under careful safety supervision and monitoring. There are numerous additional projects planned under this effort over the next few months, with upcoming work in Texas, Arizona, Idaho and California.
