Thurmont Elementary School Programming Study

Frederick County Public Schools | Frederick County, Maryland

In 2020, Marshall Craft Associates (MCA) served as the design architect to produce building assessments and proposed renovation strategies for four Frederick County public schools – Thurmont Elementary School, Emmitsburg Elementary School, Lewistown Elementary School, and Wolfsville Elementary School. This work was performed in conjunction with Facility Engineering Associates (FEA).

The studies evaluated each building for improvements that could be funded through the State of Maryland’s Limited Renovation program, which targets buildings in need of substantial renovation that do not require a full Modernization.

Thurmont Elementary is the first school in the study to have the Board of Education vote to proceed with a limited renovation. The single-story building was originally constructed in 1955 with building additions in 1959 and 1976. The school is now undergoing a limited renovation based on MCA’s recommendations to extend the life of the building.
