Surgical Services Masterplan Design and Implementation

Union Hospital Of Cecil County | Elkton, MD

Marshall Craft Associates has provided ongoing master planning and full Architectural services and A/E team coordination services to implement projects for UHCC continuously since 1991. MCA was commissioned to renovate an undersized surgical suite within the heart of the hospital that had 1970 era operating rooms and inadequate adjacencies for material, staff and patient flow.

This project was the second phase of the implementation of a surgical services master plan. Under phase one, the surgical prep and phase 2 recovery area were relocated into space previously occupied by the administration, freeing up space for a phased renovation/ replacement of the surgical suite and PACU. This project was phase six of the renovation of 24,640 square feet that established four new operating rooms and central core, a new cysto room, PACU suite, and associated support space. This phase also received two new cart lifts and one new patient elevator, inserted into the footprint of the hospital that allows a direct connection from sterile processing on the floor below, to the new clean core; direct transport of soiled case carts to the decontamination room on the floor below; and convenient patient transport to the patient tower above.

  • It has truly been a great partnership for me and for Union. Your accessibility, knowledge of the organization, and willingness to go down multiple paths and dead ends with us until we find the right solution are characteristics that are often lacking in your profession.
