Per the Institute for Biosciences and Biotechnology Research – “IBBR exists to foster integrated, cross-disciplinary team approaches to scientific discovery, translational development, and education, – and to create commercialization relationships and initiatives that serve the expanding economic base of biosciences and technology in the state of Maryland and across the country.”

The IBBR is composed, and leverages the strengths, of its three partnering institutions – the University of Maryland College Park (UMD), the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) – in the areas of biosciences,medicine,technology, quantitative sciences and engineering. They partner extensively with other academic, government & industry partners in the primary research areas of Biomolecular Engineering, Disease Pathways and Biomolecular Targets, Host-Pathogen Interactions & Biomolecular Measurement Sciences in order to “…move ideas from promising theory to real-world use“.

MCA has been working on multiple projects on multiple USM campuses for over 15 years, including three consecutive open-end contracts for medical research and high technology projects for UMB. Projects at IBBR have include the following feasibility & planning studies and projects:

Project Highlights

• IBBR engaged with a major multi-national BioTech firm to co-locate R&D facilities to the Shady Grove campus. MCA was tasked with developing a feasibility study to determine a preliminary building program and maximum build-out capacity for the facility and site. Scope of work involves renovation of under-utilized space in the existing facility and construction of a new four-story research development lab. Both facilities comply with NIST guidelines.
