In January, MCA had the pleasure of participating in St. Paul’s School for Girls, Sophomore Shadow Day. We welcomed two students; Karenna Laufer, who is interested in the Architectural profession, and Jillian Brown, who is interested in the Interior Design profession.
The shadow day is the culmination of SPSG’s semester-long career exploration program, which provides students an opportunity to align personal interests and passions with prospective professional paths and helps inform future decisions related to senior projects, college majors, internships and more. The goal of the shadow day is to allow students to experience “a day in the life” of a professional in a field that they are interested in pursuing in college and beyond.
During their visit, Jillian and Karenna were able to observe and receive hands-on experience from architectural and interior design professionals. Veronica Plischke (Project Architect) provided Karenna with an overview of the field of architecture, explaining the different stages of the design and construction process, using drawings and renderings from example projects such as SPSG’s newly renovated Learning Commons. Christin Troutman (Senior Interior Designer) explored with Jillian the stages of the design process from an interior design perspective, featuring the integration of architecture and interior design throughout the development of a project. Utku Akbulut (Associate Principal) illustrated the importance of technology in the development of a project from design through construction.
We appreciate SPSG providing MCA the opportunity to showcase the design profession, and we wish Jillian and Karenna success in their future careers.
