John has over 36 years of experience in architectural design, facilities planning, project management, and contract administration. In addition to project responsibilities, for more than a decade he has been actively involved in studio and firm management at the Board level. He also serves as MCA’s Academic Practice Leader.

Over the past 22 years, John’s work has focused on master planning and the design of educational facilities, and includes projects for a wide range of public and private higher education institutions and K-12 schools. In addition to education facilities, he has guided the design process for numerous public, healthcare, and corporate facilities.

As a LEED Accredited Professional, John is committed to producing high-quality facilities with a focus on sustainability and outstanding long-term value. This commitment is showcased in the award for his work on the Health and Counseling Centers at Towson University as well as an American School and University Citation for Adaptive Use in 2014.

John’s influence in the industry is reflected in his presentations at various conferences. He has presented to the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) and to the National Association of Business Officers (NBOA) on multiple occasions. Through these presentations, Mr. Morrel has offered professional insight on topics such as transformative planning, sustainable design, and sustainable master planning. He also recently authored a Maryland Construction Network article titled “Adoption of ‘Green’ Construction Codes by Maryland Jurisdictions.”
