The NPS Series – San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

By Michelle S. Hooper, AIA, Vice President

Next stop: San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park!

The National Park Service (NPS) has engaged FEA to provide funding documentation for upgrades to 50 parks nationwide. My visit is to the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park. Our A/E team is taking a comprehensive look at the park’s buildings and grounds from a deferred maintenance repair/replacement standpoint as well as a capital improvement perspective. We are meeting with park staff in charge of curating, programs, and facilities to understand their overall programmatic needs. This information will be used to generate a report that describes a proposed solution with projected costs.

Within the San Francisco Maritime  Park, we are focusing on their headquarters Bldg. E. This facility houses curatorial staff, archives and museum storage, the Maritime Museum and grounds (including the Municipal Pier), and the Hyde Street Pier with associated buildings containing interpretive programs for the public.
